In 1995, I left to start up my own company as a dog groomer. I did this for six years and then trained as a web designer
I devoted the next few years to client web design, but found that sitting at my computer all day was not beneficial to my body or my mind. Thus started my journey towards a more holistic pathway.
I have trained and qualified in the following: -
NLP neuro linguistic programming}
Life coaching
Meditation Teacher
Keirsey psychometric testing
Shamanic Training
Emotional Intelligence
Reiki Drum Therapist
Drum Circle facilitator
Currently also training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Meditation
I started meditation in 2007 when I enrolled on a year long program with The Centerpointe Institute {USA} which taught me how the brain works in relation to meditation, and in response to pre-conditioned beliefs. The training lay down the foundation for my own personal progress, and I was able to more easily adopt a proactive response to external events.
Meditation bought immediate benefits for myself, and continues to do so, as my threshold for stress gradually becomes higher.
I have been teaching holistic therapies since 2000 and, over time, became aware of how many students {many of them from corporate environments} were suffering from stress. So, I introduced them to meditation. I am a qualified meditation teacher, and teach CMA Meditation Teacher accredited courses.
Drumming
I believe that many people suffer from stress because they are out of balance with the natural rhythm of their lives. I discovered drumming as a way of reducing my own stress. I found it to be relaxing and stimulating at the same time. I trained as a Reiki drum therapist and drum circle facilitator {Arthur Hull Village Music Circles} in order that I could help others reclaim their rhythm in life.
I am passionate about meditation and drumming primarily because the results are so profound and long lasting, plus I greatly enjoy the process of sharing both with others.
Stress Coaching
The first step in dealing with stress is to admit that it is causing you some concern. It's not enough to try and pretend that it isn't happening, because, at some point, it will rear its ugly head as an inappropriate or disproportionate response to an external event. Stress is best tackled before it reaches a stage of overwhelm, when the brain has risen above 30Hz.
Stress coaching helps you to get to the core of the stress. That done, the next stage is to discuss effective coping strategies, relaxation methods and decide the best way forward. Often, simply voicing the stress is enough to significantly minimise it. Working with an empathic but detached observer for your emotions is a powerful way to tackle stress head on. Stress coaching is best done one to one, but group sessions can help to provide strategies and outlets for discussion.
I am an active person that walks every day, and run off-road 2 - 3 times a week and do a tough boxercise class once a week. I also take part in off-road and challenging adventure running events {I completed my first off road half marathon in July 2011} I have four dogs & compete with them regularly in running with dog events called cani-cross www.cani-cross.co.uk
